About the Role 

The role of an EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) Teacher, plays a vital role in supporting the language development, academic progress, and cultural identity of students learning English as an additional language. EAL/D Teachers work closely with classroom teachers, specialist staff, families, and the wider school community to foster an inclusive, supportive, and high-achieving learning environment. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Deliver targeted English language instruction tailored to students’ needs.
  • Assess, monitor, and document student progress using EAL/D frameworks.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to embed EAL/D strategies across the curriculum.
  • Design differentiated programs that value cultural identity and support learning.
  • Prepare formal reports and contribute to the EAL/D census data collection.
  • Engage families and community partners to support student success.
  • Promote and model Catholic values in all professional practices.
  • Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, child safety, and WHS standards.

About You

  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications and accreditation to teach in NSW.
  • Has experience or training in EAL/D teaching and learning strategies.
  • Is committed to the Catholic ethos and willing to support the faith life of the school.
  • A proven ability to differentiate the learning to meet the needs of all students. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Class Teacher.
  • Is committed to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting multilingual learners and their families.
