We have an exciting opportunity for a reliable and proactive Grounds and Maintenance Officer to join the supportive team at St Johns College, Dubbo. The Grounds and Maintenance Officer plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of the school by ensuring the grounds, facilities and learning environments are safe, well-maintained and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

This position contributes to the overall presentation and functionality of the school environment and helps create a positive first impression for the broader school community. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the School Principal and will be responsible for a range of grounds, maintenance and general operational duties.

We are seeking a Grounds and Maintenance Officer who can support the effective operation of the school by:

  • Maintaining and caring for lawns, gardens, sporting ovals, grounds and outdoor spaces.

  • Preparing ovals and sporting areas for school events, carnivals and other activities as required.

  • Safely operating and maintaining machinery and equipment relevant to the role.

  • Assisting with general maintenance tasks across buildings, furniture, equipment and school facilities.

  • Supporting the cleanliness, good order and presentation of grounds, storage areas and maintenance workspaces.

  • Assisting with the preparation of classrooms, furniture, equipment and fittings at the beginning of each school term and as required.

  • Attending to maintenance requests as directed by the School Principal.

  • Undertaking periodic cleaning and maintenance of roof gutters, drains and sumps.

  • Liaising with and monitoring external contractors where required to ensure work is completed to a satisfactory standard.

  • Following all workplace health and safety procedures, including reporting hazards and taking reasonable care for the safety of self and others.

About you
The new Grounds and Maintenance Officer will:

  • Demonstrated experience or capacity to undertake grounds, gardening, maintenance and general facilities duties.

  • Ability to safely operate and maintain relevant machinery, tools and equipment.

  • A practical, reliable and proactive approach to identifying and completing maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to follow workplace health and safety policies, procedures and site requirements.

  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a school team under the direction of the Principal.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy school environment.

  • Good communication skills, including the ability to liaise respectfully with staff, students, contractors and members of the school community.

  • Hold a current Working with Children’s Check

  • Hold a current Driver’s Licence

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the ethos of the Catholic faith and mission of the school
