Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst (CEDB) is seeking a skilled and proactive Management Accountant to provide professional financial support services across our system of 33 schools and central offices. This permanent, full-time opportunity is ideal for a finance professional who enjoys working across budgets, systems, reporting, and compliance while supporting schools to achieve strong financial outcomes.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager Financial Compliance and accountable to the Head: Finance & Facilities, the Management Accountant plays a key role in supporting schools and CEDB departments through high-quality financial analysis, budgeting, reporting, and systems expertise.

The role works closely with School Principals, School Accountants, Payroll, and CEDB leadership to ensure accurate financial management, statutory compliance, and continuous improvement in financial practices across the system.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and support the schools accounting function, including supervision, training, and professional development of School Accountants
  • Develop, maintain, and improve system-wide budgets, financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools
  • Monitor actual versus budget performance and provide meaningful analysis and commentary to support decision-making
  • Assist schools with fee modelling, forecasting, and productivity and efficiency improvements
  • Coordinate and support the use, maintenance, and enhancement of financial systems (including TechOne and XLOne)
  • Provide training and guidance to schools and CEDB staff on financial systems, tools, and policies
  • Support compliance activities, including month-end, term-end, and year-end processes, reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Partner with Payroll to support salary and wages budgeting and payroll interfaces
  • Contribute to the review and development of financial policies, procedures, templates, and documentation
  • Champion business improvement initiatives and support change management at the school level

About you (Selection Criteria)
We are looking for an experienced leader who can align with the following:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the values and ethos of Catholic education
  • Holds a degree in Accounting or a related discipline (CA/CPA qualification desirable)
  • Brings strong experience in management accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of accounting systems and financial reporting tools (experience with TechOne highly regarded)
  • Has the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • Demonstrates strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Holds a current valid driver’s licence and is willing to travel to schools as required
