About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Learning Support Officer to become a valuable addition to our remarkable team at St John’s College in Dubbo, NSW. The Aboriginal Learning Support Officer plays an essential role in supporting Aboriginal students to thrive in a Catholic secondary school environment. Working alongside teachers and support staff, the officer assists with implementing targeted literacy and numeracy programs, engages in the development of personalised learning plans, and fosters a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. This self-directed role requires someone with strong interpersonal skills, a passion for education, and a commitment to supporting the wellbeing and success of Aboriginal students.

About You (selection criteria)
We are looking for someone who can meet following selection criteria:

  • An understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education, with a willingness to support the faith and ethos of the school.

  • A genuine passion for supporting the educational, cultural, and social development of Aboriginal students, with a commitment to fostering a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment.

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting, preferably supporting students with diverse learning needs, including literacy and numeracy intervention.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with teachers, school staff, students, families, and community members.

  • An understanding of learning and development, including instructional strategies for literacy and numeracy, and the ability to implement tailored programs to support student achievement.

  • Knowledge of child protection principles and a demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing, with the ability to comply with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

  • The ability to work independently using discretion and sound judgement to solve problems, plan activities, and make informed decisions that support learning outcomes.

  • Minimum Certificate III in Education Support (or willing to obtain).
