Salary ranging from $135,000 - $157,000 (depending on qualifications and experience)

About the Role 

Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst (CEDB) is seeking an additional Child Protection Officer to join the HR, Risk and WHS Team on a full-time basis. Supporting approximately 9,000 students across 33 Catholic primary and secondary schools throughout the Diocese, this role is appropriate for someone who holds tertiary qualifications in education, social work or psychology. 

Reporting to the Head of HR, Risk and WHS, this position plays a crucial role in ensuring CEDB schools provide safe, supportive, and compliant environments for all students. 

This role will see you: 

  • Provide expert guidance on student wellbeing and risk of significant harm concerns.
  • Liaise with external agencies (e.g. DCJ, Police, mental health services), school leaders, and families.
  • Advise on and/or investigate reportable conduct matters in accordance with NESA and the Office of the Children’s Guardian requirements.
  • Deliver professional learning to school staff on child safety and wellbeing.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and internal policies around child protection, including WWCC and safeguarding requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relevant policies, procedures, and resources aligned with best practice and current research.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with education officers, wellbeing teams, Aboriginal education officers, and school counsellors.

About You 

  • Must hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in education, social work, psychology, or related discipline. 
  • Demonstrated experience working in child protection, student wellbeing, or similar fields. 
  • Understands the complex legal and regulatory frameworks surrounding child safety in education. 
  • Excellent communication skills and can sensitively engage with a variety of stakeholders including students, parents, school staff, and external agencies. 
  • Highly organised and capable of managing complex and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion. 
  • Aligns with and supports the Catholic ethos, values and mission of the Diocese. 
  • Must have a valid drivers licence.
